Shawn Vales is a contemporary American painter who works from direct observation.  He is most interested in creating work that is engaging, delightful, and lasts the test of time.

Vales received his formal training in fine art through extensive academic study and later apprenticed under Paul Ingbretson, studying drawing and painting in the Boston School tradition. He has taught drawing and painting at multiple institutions and continues to work from life in oil and charcoal.
